SEAW Outreach is partnering with Washington Alliance for Better Schools (WABS) to promote STEM learning outside of the classroom through their After School STEM Academy. The academy promotes STEM learning through hands-on activities, organized in a pre-planned curriculum. Visit WABS' website for more information about the organization and the academy.

VOLUNTEERS NEEDED!

ASSA is an after school program (3rd-5th grades) that offers supplies and a STEM-centered curriculum at no cost to students, families, or schools. The goal is to support young learners through career exploration activities and practice with 21st Century skills.

Each cycle runs for 4 weeks with 90-minute lessons (frequency: once a week). The total time commitment is about 12 hours.

PAST SESSIONS

SEAW has partnered with WABS since 2017. Last Spring two teams from SEAW volunteered to teach 4th and 5th graders about the engineering process by building catapults and trebuchets. In the Fall of 2019, SEAW fielded three teams and worked with middle school students to engineer helmets to protect against brain injuries.

We just finished up our third session. One team worked with middle school students to design insulated shipping container homes, while the other two teams helped elementary school students design for earthquakes.
